An American Airlines jet taking off in Dallas
American Airlines and US Airways, which merged in December to form the world’s largest airline, announced an expansion of their codeshare Wednesday.
The first phase of the codeshare had been announced in early January, effective January 23. The second phase expands the codeshare to provide access to almost 6,500 daily flights to more than 275 destinations in the combined network. Flights under the expanded codeshare can be booked now for travel starting February 6.
The announcement extends the codeshare to all flights operated by both airlines with the exception of a few international flights where regulatory requirements will not allow it at this time. The airlines expect to add those flights to the codeshare agreement by the end of the first quarter.
Travelers will be able to book flights covered by the codeshare on a single itinerary along with flights from the airline on which travel is being booked.
