American Airlines announced it is no longer selling tickets through consumer websites run by travel company Orbitz. In addition, US Airways tickets will no longer be available on Orbitz-run sites beginning September 1.
Tickets that have already been purchased via Orbitz are still valid. However, any changes to a reservation must be made through American’s or US Airways’ reservations departments.
American’s president, Scott Kirby, blamed the move on an inability “to reach a deal with the economics that allow us to keep costs low and compete with low-cost carriers.”
In a statement, American said that these changes will result in “minimal disruption for its customers.”
Passengers will still be able to purchase tickets through each carrier’s website as well as through travel agents and a variety of other websites that sell airline tickets.
