American Airlines announced plans to increase the size of its flight attendant bases at Dallas/Fort Worth International and Los Angeles International airports while downsizing those in Phoenix and St. Louis.

The DFW and LAX bases will increase by approximately 700 each, while Phoenix and St. Louis will be shrunk by one-third, the latter translating to a reduction of approximately 700 flight attendants in Phoenix and 75 in St. Louis.

The Fort Worth-based airline announced the news in a memorandum to employees on Wednesday.

The change comes as part of the airline’s efforts to rightsize itself now that former US Airways flight attendants have been integrated with American’s.

“What made sense for base sizes for two separate airlines may not make sense when those airlines are combined,” said Chuck Schubert, the airline’s vice president of crew operations. “Our new, integrated flying schedule will require more flight attendants in our DFW and LAX bases and fewer in PHX and St. Louis.”

The changes, the company said, will not result in the loss of any jobs. The reductions will be accomplished through voluntary transfers and attrition.
