American Airlines and its flight attendant union, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, said announced that an arbitration board had rendered a final decision on the collective bargaining agreement between the two parties.
The decision by the seven-member board established a joint contract that covers more than 24,000 flight attendants working at both American Airlines and US Airways.
In November, union members rejected the tentative agreement on a new joint collective bargaining agreement that was worth $193 million more than the current contracts. The two parties had agreed back in 2012 on a process that called for binding arbitration to take place in the event the contract were rejected.
The five-year pact includes pay raises that are lower than the tentative agreement but does not incorporate so-called “me-too” clauses for profit sharing and health insurance that the union had asked the arbitration panel to add.
“In both cases the Panel found that the inclusion of these provisions would push the added value of the JCBA beyond the market-based aggregate of $112 million,” the union said in a statement on Saturday.
