American Airlines and US Airways announced the two airlines have aligned fare class codes for coach flights, also referred to as inventory, by transitioning multiple US Airways fare classes to their AA equivalents.
The change went into effect Saturday and applies to all US Airways-marketed fares for flights operated starting September 17. Tickets issued prior to Saturday do not need to be reissued.
With the change, US Airways is moving to 12 fare classes from 15 by eliminating T, U, and R classes.
American uses T, U, and R for coach awards, business-class awards, and business-class upgrades on three-class domestic and two-class transborder flights respectively.
American Airlines and US Airways merged in December 2013.
