American Airlines, which merged with US Airways in December to form the world’s biggest carrier, reported that combined traffic was up in its first month as American Airlines Group.
On a combined basis, American Airlines Group traffic increased 5.7% to 18.15 million revenue passenger miles. Combined capacity was 21.67 billion available seat miles, a 1.9% year-over-year increase. The airline’s total load factor was 83.8%, an increase of 3% from December 2012.
Individually, American Airlines said traffic increased by 5% year-over-year while US Airways traffic was up 7%. Capacity was up 1.1% and 3.6% respectively. American’s load factor was 83.3%, a 3.1% increase and US Airways’ was 84.7%, a 2.7% increase.
Meanwhile, United Airlines, which was the largest airline until the December merger, reported consolidated traffic was up 4.1% amidst a capacity increase of 0.5%. The airline’s load factor was up 3%.
