A Virgin America Airbus A320
Virgin America announced that it plans to expand and increase its service out of Dallas. The airline hopes to secure two gates that American Airlines is losing at Dallas’ Love Field, and if successful, will move its current operations from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Dallas Love Field this October.
From Dallas Love Field, the carrier would add new daily service to New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. In addition, the airline would increase its existing service from the Dallas area to both Los Angeles and San Francisco from Love Field.
Virgin would offer four daily roundtrip flights between Dallas Love Field and both New York’s LaGuardia and Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National beginning in October, as well as two daily roundtrip flights to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport early next year. The airline would also increase its current service to Los Angeles International Airport and San Francisco International Airport from the Dallas area to three daily roundtrips, which would increase to four in 2015.
Virgin plans to use Airbus A320 aircraft from Love Field. The carrier’s A320s come equipped with eight seats in first class, 12 seats in main cabin select, and either 126 or 129 seats in economy. First-class seats have a pitch of 55″ and a width of 21″.
Virgin America hopes to obtain the two gates at Dallas Love Field that American Airlines is loosing as part of the Department of Justice settlement agreement that resolved American’s merger with US Airways last year.
